Review: Yarn Bee’s Sugarwheel Cotton

To create the Mother’s Day Bookmark project, I worked with a partial cake of Yarn Bee’s Sugarwheel Cotton. This is one of Hobby Lobby’s store brands, and like all Hobby Lobby yarns I have mixed feelings about it. In truth, I stopped purchasing Hobby Lobby brands for myself due to inconsistent product quality. But this lovely and vibrant cake was gifted to me with a variety of partially used materials. Not one to let any crafty supply go to waste, I was grateful to have it on hand to play with today.

The Sugarwheel Cotton was soft and a pleasure to crochet with, although riddled with manufacturer issues. Not only did I have to make several cuts to work around split sections and knots, but this cotton material had many fluffy bits embedded in the yarn itself. Thankfully, these bookmarks are small projects and having to cut around these imperfections did not impact the final project. The vibrant tones of the yarn itself look great and offer a variety of colors to play with when stitching the flower’s petals.

The texture is soft and the colors are delightful, but I could not give this yarn more than a 2 heart review. The cost of material and the inconsistency in product quality make this a poor material to utilize for many projects. Although I have to admit, I enjoy the final project I created from it.
